What To Do If You Are NOT Going For Hajj ?

The first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah are the most beloved to Allah.

The Prophet testified to that. He said:

There are no days in which righteous deeds are more beloved to Allah than these ten days. (Bukhaari).

WHAT ACTIVITIES IN THESE 10 DAYS WILL BRING THE REWARD OF JANNAH?

Obviously, Hajj is one of the best deeds that one can do during these ten days. However for those of us who were not invited to His House this year, there are still many, good deeds that one can do and earn the Pleasure of Allah.

Some of these are:

1) Fast all nine days and especially fast the Day of Arafah

The Prophet (PBUH) said:

Anyone who fasts for one day for Allah’s pleasure, Allah will keep his face away from the (Hell) fire for (a distance covered by a journey of) seventy years. (Bukhari, Muslim)

The Prophet (PBUH) used to fast on the ninth day of Dhul-Hijjah and he said:

Fasting the Day of Arafah (ninth Dhul-hijjah) is an expiation for (all the sins of) the previous year and an expiation for (all the sins of) the coming year. (Muslim) .

2) Do a LOT of Dhikr and Takbeer

The Prophet (PBUH) said:

There are no days on which good deeds are greater or more beloved to Allah than on these ten days, so recite much Tahleel (saying Laa ilaaha ill-Allaah), Takbeer (saying Allahu Akbar) and Tahmeed (saying Al-hamdu Lillaah).(Ahmad -Saheeh)

Ibn Umar and Abu Hurayrah used to go out in the marketplace during the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah, reciting Takbeer, and the people would recite Takbeer when they heard them. (Bukhaari)Takbeer at this time is a Sunnah. So recite it in the masjid, in your home, on the street and every place where it is permitted to remember Allah. Revive the Sunnah that have been virtually forgotten and earn great rewards for doing so..The Prophet said: Whoever revives an aspect of my Sunnah that is forgotten after my death, he will have a reward equivalent to that of the people who follow him, without it detracting in the least from their reward. (Tirmidhi- a hasan hadeeth) Men should recite these phrases out loud, and women should recite them quietly.

3) Stand in Night Prayers: (Tahajud, Qiyam al Layl)

Remember the virtues of spending the night in prayer, and its sweetness in Ramadan? Why not revive this beautiful act of worship during these nights as well? Remember, how in the last third of every night, Allah Almighty calls out to us, His servants: Is there anyone to invoke Me, so that I may respond to his invocation? Is there anyone to ask Me, so that I may grant him his request? Is there anyone seeking My forgiveness, so that I may forgive him? (Bukhaari, Muslim).

Why do we miss this golden opportunity? So, seize the chance NOW and expose yourself to His Divine Generosity and Mercy, ask Him to forgive you and guide you and set things aright. He will surely listen.

4) Make Sincere Repentance.

One of the most important action during these ten days is to repent sincerely to Allah and to give up all kinds of disobedience and sin right away because we do not know when we will die and thus become unable to repent, and also because one evil deed leads to another.

But what does repentance mean?

It means that you come back to Allah and give up all the deeds, open and secret, that He dislikes. that you regret whatever you did in the past, giving it up immediately and be determined never ever, to return to it, and resolve to adhere firmly to the Truth by doing whatever Allah loves.

It is time now to dust off your copy of the Quraan and return to its refuge. Make it a daily habit, using these 10 days the beginning of a strong and beautiful relationship with it. Read it with meaning, reflect on it, understand it, and then implement it in your daily life.Remember that reading one letter of the Quraan earns you ten rewards.

But as for him who repented, believed and did righteous deeds, then he will be among those who are successful. [Al-Qasas 28:67].

5) Come back to the Quraan

In this way, reading Surat Al-Fatihah, which doesn’t take more than two minutes, will give you more than one thousand rewards!

This is on ordinary days, so what about these magnificent days! Certainly the reward will be far greater, Insha Allah.

6) Increase ALL the types of good deeds.

If we are unable to go to Hajj this year, we should occupy ourselves in the worship of Allah; pray extra prayers (Nafilah) recite the Quraan. Make Dhikr of Allah, send Salaams on the Prophet, make dua, give charity, honor our parents, uphold ties of kinship, enjoin what is good and forbid what is evil, and add other good deeds and acts of worship during these days.

So whosoever does good equal to the weight of an atom, shall see it; And whosoever does evil equal to the weight of an atom, shall see it.[Al-Zalzalah 99:7-8].

7) Get the reward of Hajj wherever you are:

You may be unable to do Hajj this year, and you may feel sad. However, you can get the reward of it right where you are.The Prophet said:

Whoever prays Fajr Prayer in congregation, and then sits and remembers Allah until the sun rises, then (after a while) prays two rakas, he will gain a reward equal to that of making perfect Hajj and Umrah.[He repeated the word "perfect" thrice.] (At-Tirmidhi)

8) Slaughter an animal and distribute the meat.

Ibn Umar said: The Prophet lived in Madeenah for 10 years and every year he slaughtered an animal. (Ahmad-Saheeh by al-Albaani)

9) Attend Eid prayers

But remember that Eid prayer is a form of worship and we should avoid unislamic behavior (especially) in dress and in etiquette during these times.

10) Thank Allah

One of the best forms of worshipping Allah Subhaanahu wa Taala is to thank Him, deeply, sincerely and continuously.Alhamdulillah, there is much to be gained in these coming days. Hasten to do good deeds and striving hard in worship .And worship your Lord until there comes unto you the certainty (death).[Al-Hijr 15:99]

Seorang wanita sedang keluar dari rumahnya apabila dia terlihat tiga orang lelaki tua berjanggut panjang dan berwarna putih sedang duduk di halaman rumahnya. Dia tidak kenal akan mereka.

Wanita itu bertanya, "Saya tidak fikir saya mengenali anda semua. Meskipun begitu, silalah masuk ke rumah saya. Anda bertiga kelihatan lapar. Akan saya hidangkan makanan."

"Kami tidak akan masuk ke dalam rumah bersama-sama," jawab mereka.

"Mengapa begitu?" tanya wanita itu. Salah seorang dari lelaki tua itu pun menjawab, "Nama kawan saya yang berdiri di sebelah kiri saya ialah Kekayaan, yang berdiri di sebelah kanan saya pula bernama, Kejayaan, dan saya adalah Kasih Sayang."

Dia menyambung lagi, "Sekarang masuklah semula ke dalam rumah dan berbincang dengan suami awak, siapakah di antara kami bertiga yang kamu ingin jemput ke dalam rumah?" Wanita itu pun masuk semula ke dalam dan memberitahu suaminya perkara tersebut. Suaminya berasa sungguh gembira.

"Bagusnya!" dia berkata. "Kalau begitu, jemputlah Kekayaan masuk. Biar dia masuk dengan mengisi rumah kita dengan kekayaan!" Isterinya tidak bersetuju lalu berkata, "Abang, saya mahu jemput Kejayaan masuk ke rumah kita agar kita semua akan mendapat kejayaan di dalam kehidupan kita."

Kebetulan, anak perempuan mereka itu terdengar perbualan tersebut. Dia lalu menyampuk dan memberikan pandangannya. "Ibu, Ayah, bukankah lebih baik sekiranya kita menjemput Kasih Sayang? Rumah kita ini pasti akan diselubungi dengan kasih sayang."

"Biarlah kita mengikut nasihat anak kita itu. Pergilah jemput Kasih Sayang sebagai tetamu kita," kata si suami kepada isterinya. Wanita itu pun keluar dan bertanya kepada ketiga lelaki tua itu, "Yang mana satu di antara kamu bertiga yang bernama Kasih Sayang? Silalah masuk dan menjadi tetamu kami."

Kasih Sayang pun bangun dan mula berjalan ke arah rumah. Kedua-dua lelaki yang tidak dijemput juga bangun dan mengikutinya. Wanita itu terperanjat lalu bertanya kepada Kejayaan dan Kekayaan, "Saya cuma menjemput Kasih Sayang, mengapa kamu berdua turut ikut sekali?"

Mereka menjawab, "Jika awak menjemput sama ada Kekayaan atau Kejayaan yang lain akan tunggu di luar, tetapi oleh kerana awak telah menjemput Kasih Sayang, ke mana-mana sahaja dia pergi, kami akan mengikutinya. Kerana, di mana ada Kasih Sayang, di situ juga ada Kekayaan dan Kejayaan!"

Siapa yang tidak menyayangi, maka dia tidak akan disayangi.

Whoever completes fasts of Ramadan then adds to them the fast of six days in the month of Shawwal, it will carry the thawab of fasting for the whole year. (Sahih Muslim)

The Superiority of Lailatul Qadr (Night of Power)

As you all know, we are reaching the final 10 days of Ramadhan which means the ultimately most blessed night (LAILATUL QADR) is coming soon!

The Night of Power is the most greatest way for us to worship, to start a new year with a fresh outlook in life by rejuvenating ourselves as every one of us wants to live a pure life without anguish or torment, to live a life free of sins and mistakes so as to meet Allah S.W.T on the Day of Judgement without sins. Lailatul Qadr is said to be better than a 1000 months and is equivalent to 1000 nights of worship. And so whoever misses it has indeed wasted a great amount of good as 1000 nights of worship is an equivalent of 83 years and 3 months which is equivalent to a person who has spent an entire lifetime in non-stop worship.

Signs of Lailatul Qadr

1) The sun rises early in the morning without sun rays.

2) Rainfall may occur during the night/the day of THAT night.

3) During night the sky will be slightly foggy.

4) The sky will be slightly lighted without reflections and without sun rays.

5) The angels and Malaikat Jibrail A.S all descend down to earth. (even though we cannot see the angels and Malaikat Jibrail A.S, this is indeed a GREAT blessing that Allah S.W.T revealed in the Quran)

During the Night of Power, try to observe it during the last 10 days of Ramadhan, at the time of sunrise, during the day and the nights. On the nights itself, you may spend the time collectively or individually by recitation of the Quran, remembrance of Allah S.W.T by zikir, supplication/doa, reading books on Hadith, reading tafsir of Quran, giving charity to others if can afford.

To conclude, the Night of Power is a very important occasion in Islam as it is a Night of Mercy, a Night of Blessing, a Night of Peace, and a Night of Guidance. So do strive very hard to look for the Night of Power(even if you really don't have the time to go to the mosque, at least make an effort to perform at home) to attain the Mercy and receive the Blessings of Allah S.W.T, and also pray sincerely deep down within our hearts to avoid the torture of Hellfire. As one hadith said; Ibn Abbas (R.A) heard the Prophet (S.A.W) advising someone, saying, “Take advantage of five before five: You’re youth before your old age, your health before your sickness, your wealth before your poverty, your free time before you become occupied, and your life before your death.”

May Allah strengthen our faith, give us the power-courage-effort to do our best to obey and to follow the teachings of Allah S.W.T and His Messenger S.A.W. May Allah guide us to the straight path and may Allah forgive us all. Amin.

The True Light of Islam

It is that time of the year once again. It is the advent of a month that is filled with innumerable blessings, the thirty days which require a Muslim to observe one of the five pillars of Islam, fasting.

Ramadan is characterized not just by its obligation on every Muslim to keep away from certain things which are allowed in other months, but also by the weight of blessings attached to every good deed performed in this month. So what are these unique features which make Ramadan such a special and sanctified month for Muslims the over the world?

Probably the most significant is the fact that in this month, as we are told by Allah, the gates of Heaven are thrown open, the gates of Hell are closed and the devils are chained. This essentially signifies that, in Ramadan, the devils and their advocates have a much more difficult job diverting true Muslims from fully reaping the bounties of Allah by performing every religious duty with a pure intention.

Complete abstinence from food and water during the entire daylight hours in Ramadan helps the body detoxify of illnesses. Ramadan is the only period in which our gastro-intestinal system takes good rest. But one ought to be careful with food choices made during the early dawn (Suhur) and after sunset (Iftar) meals, especially during the long days in summer. Overeating during Suhur is just as bad to the body as overwhelming the empty stomach with empty calories foods (high in fat and/or sugar) during Iftar.

Here are some useful tips you should follow!

 Consume dates for both Suhur and Iftar. Ripe dates have a sugar content of up to 80%. They provide the much needed energy, vitamins, minerals and also fibre which fill up the stomach quickly.

 Complex carbohydrates such as wholemeal bread, beans, lentils (like tempeh) are ideal for Suhur. The body digests these more slowly and they help one to feel less hungry during the day.

 Consume fruit juices when breaking fast. They help to restore blood glucose levels in the body.

 Avoid large amounts of caffeine, such as that in coffee and tea. Caffeine is a diuretic which causes the loss of valuable minerals that your body needs during the day.

Imagine a person who has fasted for more or less 14-15 hours and is now ready to break his fast. His taste buds have taken good rest, thus at Iftar, the food will taste more pleasant and appetizing than ever before. This is yet another bounty of Ramadan. Allah’s Apostle (pbuh) said, "By Him in Whose Hands my soul is, the unpleasant smell coming out from the mouth of a fasting person is better in the sight of Allah than the smell of musk. There are two pleasures for the fasting person, one at the time of breaking his fast, and the other at the time when he will meet his Lord; then he will be pleased because of his fasting." (Bukhari).

The foods we eat are either for necessity, sufficiency or excessiveness.

Al-Musnad (by Imam Ahmad) narrated that the Prophet (pbuh) said:
"The son of Adam never fills a vessel worse than his stomach. The son of Adam only needs a few bites that would sustain him, but if he insists, one third should be reserved for his food, another third for his drink and the last third for his breathing."

This is the best method for eating, both for the body and the heart. When the stomach is full of food. there will not be enough space for drinking. When one consumes something to drink on a full stomach, one's breathing will be difficult, thus bringing about laziness and fatigue. One will feel heavy, as if carrying a load on his stomach. Consequently, one will be lazy fulfilling his obligations and will seek other desires now that his stomach is full!

Ramadan is an amazing month. There is a flow of blessings and rewards from Allah to those who truly want to reap the full benefits from these thirty days. Probably the best thing about Ramadan is the fact that each and every action is done truly for Allah and each serves to strengthen our faith in Him. There are no strings attached to any action, as they normally are with most of our routine work. Ramadan is not just a month in which we refrain from food and drink for a few hours. It is a chance to make up for the time lost around the year in other work and revert to Allah, beg forgiveness for the sins done around the year, and finally, a chance to better the life awaiting in the Hereafter.

May Allah help us all to make every fast this Ramadan a shield in the Hereafter and an intercessor in the grave. May Allah not make us one of those who do not get anything from their fasts except for hunger and thirst. And may Allah guide us towards making this Ramadan a source for gathering numerous blessings and getting our major and minor sins forgiven. Ameen!

No, it doesn’t end here!

Below is a recipe for all to try! Ramadan’s Special! It is as simple as 1-2-3! Rejuvenate your energy with this smoothie drink. It is full of antioxidants required for your body.

Ingredients you will need:
1/2 cup fresh blueberries
1 cup cranberry or pomegranate juice
1 cup chopped watermelon (seeds removed)
6-8 baby carrots
6-8 seedless red grapes or pitted fresh cherries
6-8 mint leaves
Ice cubes (optional)

Making the drink:
Blend all the ingredients in a processor or blender

until coarsely chopped. Add a cup of water. Blend for 2 minutes. Strain and serve cold.

Abu Dawud and At-Tirmidhi narrated that
the Prophet (pbuh) used to eat watermelon with ripe dates saying: "The hotness of this substance (dates) neutralizes the coolness of that (watermelon)."
Watermelon is cold and juicy and sweet. It works as a cleanser for the stomach and the intestines. Watermelon departs the stomach more quickly than cucumber and quickly blends with whatever substances are present in the stomach. It is beneficial to eat before the meals as it cleanses the stomach and removes ailments.

May the peace and mercy of Allah be with you, Dear Brothers and Sisters in Islam.

I will like to take this opportunity, that Allah SWT has given me, to thank Allah SWT and everyone of you that made the NI Yaumul Usrah (7^th August 2010, Saturday) a successful ‘Family Day’ event.

In a few days’ time, Ramadan, the month full of barakah, will soon approach us. And fasting is introduced in Ramadan, as an obligatory act to be performed.

O you who believe! Observing As-Saum (the fasting) is prescribed for you as it was prescribed for those before you, that you may become Al-Muttaqun (Surah Al-Baqarah, Chapter #2, Verse #183)

All of us want to experience as many Ramadan moments in our lives, but ask ourselves. Are we really prepared for it? Are we going to treat Ramadan similarly as the other months? Are we going to treat Ramadan as only a fasting period? Have we even set goals to be accomplished during Ramadan, be it mentally and spiritually?

What’s your preparation for Ramadan, my dear brothers and sisters?

Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah's Apostle said, "Whoever observes fasts during the month of Ramadan out of sincere faith, and hoping to attain Allah's rewards, then all his past sins will be forgiven." (Book #2, Hadith #37, Sahih Bukhari).

MasyaAllah, the above authentic hadith states the barakah of fasting during the month of Ramadan. But to be honest, just how many of us actually realise the barakah of it? Or we are just viewing it for the sake of reading? Allah promises and He NEVER lies. But are we thankful to Him for all the blessings and guidance He has shown us?

Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah's Apostle said, "When the month of Ramadan starts, the gates of the heaven are opened and the gates of Hell are closed and the devils are chained." (Book #31, Hadith #123, Sahih Bukhari).

SubhanAllah, Allah has made our path easy for us to seek knowledge during Ramadan, to observe our fast sincerely, to guard our tongue from forbidding words, and restricting ourselves from committing acts of evil. But why do some of us still persist in committing deeds that are of no good, although the devils are being chained like what the above hadith states?

This is the time for us to do self-reflections before the holy month of Ramadan starts. Ask ourselves, just what exactly do we want to achieve in this coming Ramadan?

I sincerely hope that Allah SWT will ease our paths in committing our ibadahs during this upcoming Ramadan.

And let’s NOT be ‘seasonal Muslims’.

I apologise for any shortcomings from me, as the Good come from Allah SWT, and we mere humans are bound to commit mistakes.

Sabda Nabi s.a.w bermaksud: Apabila masuk bulan sya`ban, baikkanlah niatmu padanya, kerana kelebihan sya`ban atas segala bulan seperti kelebihanku atas kamu.(Al-hadis)
Sabda Nabi s.a.w.: Bahawa puasa Syaba'an kerana membesarkan Ramadhan. Siapa yang berpuasa tiga hari daripada bulan Sya'aban, kemudian dia bersalawat atasku beberapa kali sebelum berbuka puasa maka di ampunkan oleh Allah dosanya yang telah lalu, diberkatikan rezki baginya, antara lain sabdanya lagi: Bahawa Allah Ta'ala membukakan pada bulan itu tiga ratus pintu rahmat.

AMALAN PADA MALAM NISFU SYABAAN:

Selesai sembahyang Maghrib hendaklah dibaca YASIN. Dengan niat panjangkan umurnya dalam mentaati Allah. Kemudian berdoalah. Pada malam Nisfu Sya'aban sangat baik dibanyakan beristighfar (memohon keampunan) dan taubat dari dosa-dosa besar dan kecil serta meminta diampunkan Allah ibubapa kita dan keluarga kita.

السلام عليكم Dear Brothers and Sisters in Islam,

May the viewers of this blog be in the best state of Imaan & Health.

I will like to take this opportunity, that Allah SWT has given me, to thank Allah SWT and everyone of you that made the NI Official 7^th EXCO Handover (14^th June 2010, Monday) a short & simple, yet memorable event.

May Allah SWT constantly shower His blessings on us. InsyaAllah.

And now, the 7^th EXCOs comprises of great individuals, with different personalities and characteristics. But with the same intention: To Strive for Allah’s cause.

Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet said, "Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day, should serve his guest generously; and whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day, should unite the bond of kinship (i.e. keep good relation with his Kith and kin); and whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day, should talk what is good or keep quit.” (Book #73, Hadith #160, Sahih Bukhari)

The above hadith strongly emphasized on how important for us to maintain good relations with our kin and establish strong family bonds. And I hope Nur Ikhwan will serve as a great platform to exercise this deeply.

And I will like to take another opportunity to seek forgiveness from Allah SWT and also from all NIans, alumNI and other people, if I commit any mistake that hurts you in any forms of way in the past & near future.

It has been the supplication for every past NI office bearer that the future EXCOs will be better than they were.

And I sincerely hope that the current NI office bearers, AY 2010/2011, will be dedicated & uphold to their responsibilities given, fairly & well. InsyaAllah. AMIN.

tabbat yadaa 'abe lahab wa- tabb
maa aghnaa 'an -hu maalu -hu wa- maa kasab
sa- yas.laa naar(an) dhaata lahab
wa- mra'atu -hu h.ammaalata al- h.at.ab
fi jiidi -haa h.ablum min masad

1 the power of Abu Lahab will perish and he will perish.

2 his wealth and gains will not exempt him.

3 he will be plunged in flaming fire,

4 and his wife, the wood-carrier,

5 will have upon her neck a halter (twisted rope) of palm-fiber.

Surah Al-Masad or Al-Lahab was revealed at Mecca and contains 5 verses. It was sent down after Abu Lahab's reaction towards the Prophet Muhammad's speech on a hill in Mecca. Abu Lahab was the Prophet's uncle.

It is narrated that, Allah has commanded His Prophet Muhammad:

"And warn your tribe of near kindred" (Verse 26: 214)

Then, one day, in the year of 611, Muhammad climbed a hill in Mecca and shouted: ‘O household of (and he named all the fathers of his tribe), Come to me!’ And so all his tribe gathered around him; (some came in person and some sent their own emissary).

They said: ‘What ails you?’

He said: ‘If I were to tell you that the enemy is going to attack you in the morning or in the evening, would you believe me?’

They said: ‘Indeed, we would believe you’.

He said: ‘In that case, I am a Warner sent to you against a tremendous chastisement’. I have nothing in my possession which will save you from Allah’s chastisement nor can I promise you any share from this world unless you say: there is no deity except Allah’.

Abu Lahab said in response: ‘May you perish, is this why you have summoned all of us here?’

Then, the Prophet threatened him with the chastisement in the Hereafter,

However, he said, ‘If what my brother’s son says is true, then I shall ransom myself from it with my wealth and sons!’

And so Allah, revealed (The power of Abu Lahab will perish, and he will perish…) up to the end of the Surah No. 111”.

Abu Lahab died 10 years after this event.

Islamic Scholars say that if Abu Lahab (and his wife) would have embraced Islam the whole Quran would have been in question. Because Quran clearly dictated that Abu Lahab (and his wife) will dwell in the Eternal Fire in the Hereafter, and both Abu Lahab (and his wife) did not embraced Islam and died as being unbelievers.

It should be emphasized that Abu Lahab (and his wife) had the chance to do that for Ten years (= 365 X 10 days). This means that Abu Lahab had 3,650 chances if he, one day, would have said that he is a Muslim and he believes in Allah, Muhammad and the Quran. In this case, the Divine nature of the Quran would have been suspicious and the trustfulness of the entire Quran would have been questionable. Also, Abu Lahab's wife had the same 3,650 chances to prove that the Quran is not revealed by Allah.

Assalamualaikaum warahmatulLah wabarakaatuh, beloved readers.

We apologise for not having a post for surah of the month last month. So to sort of make up for it, we’ll have three! =)

I am sure many of you have heard of the 3 Surahs, Al-Ikhlas, Surat Al-Falaq and Surat An-Nas. Or perhaps they are better known as the 3 Quls. These surahs may be short, but MashaAllah, the benefits of reading them is amazing.

Qul huwal lahu a'haad.
Allah'hus Samad.
Lam ya'lid wa'lam yu'lad.
Wa'lam ya'kul-la'hu Kuf'fu'wan a'had.

Surah Al-Ikhlas is one of the shortest surahs in the Holy Quraan with only 4 verses. the chapter isa divine description of the Creator, the Unique and Self-Sufficient One. In one hadith narrated by Abu Said Al-Khudri: The Prophet said to his companions, "Is it difficult for any of you to recite one third of the Qur'an in one night?" This suggestion was difficult for them so they said, "Who among us has the power to do so, O Allah's Apostle?" Allah Apostle replied: " Allah (the) One, the Self-Sufficient Master Whom all creatures need.' (Surat al-ikhlas 112.1--to the End) is equal to one third of the Qur'an." (Sahih Al-Bukhari)

So if reading it once is equal to a third of the Qur’an, what about reading it thrice? MashaAllah! =) In another hadith, 'Aisha R.A. narrated that The Prophet sent (an army unit) under the command of a man who used to lead his companions in the prayers and would finish his recitation with (the Sura 112): 'Say (O Muhammad): "He is Allah, the One." ' (112.1) When they returned (from the battle), they mentioned that to the Prophet. He said (to them), "Ask him why he does so." They asked him and he said, "I do so because it mentions the qualities of the Beneficent and I love to recite it (in my prayer)." The Prophet; said (to them), "Tell him that Allah loves him" (Sahih Al-Bukhari)

Of course, the fact that RasululLah asked of the man’s intentions shows that one’s niat (intention) in reciting the surah is important. Reading it without a proper and sincere intention does not guarantee Allah’s love.

Qul ‘a’udhu bi rabbil Falaq

Min sharri ma khalaq

Wa min sharri ghasiqin idha waqab

Wa min sharrin Naffathati fil ‘uqad

Wa min Sharri hasidin idha hasad.

Say: "I seek refuge with (Allâh) the Lord of the daybreak, From the evil of what He has created; And from the evil of the darkening (night) as it comes with its darkness; (or the moon as it sets or goes away). And from the evil of the witchcrafts when they blow in the knots, And from the evil of the envier when he envies."

Qul 'A'udhu bi-rabbin-nas

Melikin-Nas

Ilhahin-Nas

Min-Sharril-Waswasil-Khan-Nas

Al-Ladhi Yuwas-Wisu fee Sudurin-Nas

Mina Al-Jinnati Wan-Nas

Say: "I seek refuge with (Allah) the Lord of mankind, The King of mankind, The Ilah (God) of mankind, From the evil of the whisperer (devil who whispers evil in the hearts of men) who withdraws (from his whispering in ones heart after one remembers Allah) , Who whispers in the breasts of mankind, Of jinns and men."

Surah Al Falaq and Surah An Naas is the other 2 surahs of the 3 quls. Together they are known as al-Mu'awwidhatayn. The al-Mu'awwidhitayn (Arabic المعوذتين), sometimes translated as "Versesof refuge", is an Arabic term referring to the last two suras (chapters) of the Qur'an viz. al-Falaq and an-Nas which are two consecutive short prayers beginning with "Say: I seek refuge in the Lord...". Although these two Surahs are separate entities in the Qur'an and also are written in the Mushaf under separate names, they are so deeply related mutually with their contents closely resembling each other's that they have been designated by a common name Mu'awwidhitayn (the two Surahs in which refuge with Allah has been sought).

Narrated 'Aisha r.a.: Whenever thy Prophet go went to bed every night, he used to cup his hands together and blow over it after reciting Surat Al-Ikhlas, Surat Al-Falaq and Surat An-Nas, and then rub his hands over whatever parts of his body he was able to rub, starting with his head, face and front of his body. He used to do that three times. (Sahih Al-Bukhari)

The central theme of both the surahs is to advise and counsel the Prophet (sws) to seek protection and refuge of the Almighty from all the calamities of the world and from the evil of everything created by the Almighty because it is He alone who can actually give refuge to man from all evils and calamities.

2) If you survive till the evening, do not expect to be alive in the morning, and if you survive till the morning, do not expect to be alive in the evening, & take preparations from your health for your sickness, and from your life for your death. (Bukhari).

3) The OBJECTIVE of human beings in this world is to attain happiness in the Hereafter :)

May Allah make our last breath a window through which we view our rewards in the eternal world. AMIN! :)

Love For Allah s.w.t, our Creator.

(The most firm bonds of belief are: Supporting others for the sake of Allah, showing enmity for the sake of Allah, loving for the sake of Allah, hating for the sake of Allah the Almighty ) (Sahih Aj Jame' 2539).

Love for the sake of Allah means loving others just in the way and for the cause of Allah the Almighty, not for other objectives, just like the following verse of the Holy Quran {And those who strive in Our (cause),- We will certainly guide them to our Paths} Al-Ankabout 69. i.e. they strive in the way, for the cause and for the sake of Allah alone.

Love is a tendency toward something for certain perfection therein; therefore, if the believer acknowledged that the real perfection is just for Allah, and that any perfection observed by him in himself or in others is just a grant from Allah, his love will be sincere for the sake, in the cause, and in the way of Allah, and this entails the full obedience to Allah The Almighty; accordingly, love is construed as a wish for compliance which entails following the Prophet peace be upon him.

Islam is the religion of love for the sake of Allah, and hate for the sake of Allah; because the heart is always attached to a beloved, and if Allah The Almighty Alone was not his beloved and worshiped, the heart will be attached to others i.e. polytheism; therefore, love for the sake of Allah is the religion itself.

(Allah will overshadow seven kinds of persons at the Day of Judgment, wherein there is no shadow except His ….. two persons loved each other for the sake of Allah, met and separated under such love …..), narrated by Al-Bukhari, 1423, and Muslim.

The moral character of the da'i must be marked by patience. It takes patience to wait for the right opportunities for dawah work to arise, and it also takes patience for the right sets of conditions to be created. Those who are unwilling to remain patient in the face of ignorance obduracy and unpleasantness can never fulfill the true calling of the da'i.

Sir James Jeans, the renowned English scientist, once stated in the foreword to a book he had written on physics and philosophy in 1941, that the scientific study of the universe had led us to the point where it seemed to suggest that "the door may be unlocked, only if we could find the handle." (p. 16)

This notion was put into words by this English scientist at a time when Muslims the world over, provoked at the domination of English, were waging bloody war against them. When the Muslims looked at the English, they saw in them only hateful enemies. Had they displayed patience — even only temporarily — at their political domination, they would very soon have discovered that the "handle" the English sought to the door of Reality, was already available to Muslims in the form of the Qur’an.

With this knowledge their entire attitude towards the English would have drastically changed. Soon they would have come to regard the English as their mad'u (congregation) and not as rivals. And then instead of praying for their doom they would have prayed for their guidance, and reformation. As their well-wishers they would have told them that what they (the English) required to reach the destination of reality had already been sent by God in the form of the Qur’an.

Patience is the necessary condition of da'wah — where there is no patience there can certainly be no da'wah.

For the benefit of those who dosen't know what da'wah means, it is the inviting to the way of submission to Allah s.w.t. Every single thing that we do in this world, has to ultimately be inviting to our taqwa. Which is the submission to Allah s.w.t. In other words, every single thing that we do, must be for Allah s.w.t. Thus comes the necessity of da'wah in Islamic context.

The last sentence is really good and vital for us, muslims to understand it well. Patience is a necessary condition of da'wah. If we are not patient, there will be no da'wah in anything we do.
So as the second half of the school semester kicks off this week, let us pray to Allah s.w.t for us to build upon our patience, entirely making us better muslims insy'Allah. ;)

As you can see from the poster above, Saff-Perdaus is having their annual Qurban For a Cause program where the meat from the Qurbans are given to those who needs it the most, in this case the people in Malang and Palestine.

Nur Ikhwan is hoping to contribute to this wonderful program by collecting funds of every amount to register for the $195 Qurban for the people in Palestine. So far we have $80 on hand from the remainings of last year's fund. Hence, we need to raise $115 more to complete the $195 needed.

As you already know, Eid-Aladha is just around the corner, so if you would like to contribute, contact Sis Aishah at 90296936 NOW! (by Monday, 23rd Nov) So that we can meet the deadline =D

Surah of The Month

Assalaamualikum wr. wb. =)

AlhamdulilLah, this is our first of the series of our Surah of the Month. InsyaAllah every month we will have a new surah (chapter) for us to read, listen and reflect upon to enhance our imaan.

As this is the first surah, why not start with a surah so rightfully named as The Opening - Surah Al-Faatihah.

Surah Al-Faatihah

Bismillahir Rahmanir-Raheem
Al-Hamdu Lil-lahi Rabbil-'Alameen
Ar-Rahmanir-Raheem
Maliki Yawmid-Deen

'Iyaka Na'budu Wa' Iyaka Nasta'een

Ihdinas-Siratal-Musta-qeem
Siratal-Ladheena 'An'amta 'Alay-him
Ghayril-Maghdhoubi 'Alay-him Wa La-dhaalleen

Translation:

In the name of God, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Master of the worlds and Sovereign of the Day of Judgement
You alone we worship, and from You alone we seek our aid
Guide us to the straight path
The path of those You have earned Your favour
Not of those who have earned Your anger
Or those who have gone astray.

A few interesting facts:

Surah Al Fatihah is the first surah (chapter) in the Qu'ran. It consists of seven ayahs (verses) that form a prayer for Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala's mercy and guidance, and express the believer's dependence on the lordship and mercy of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.

In English, the title Al Fatihah is often translated into "The Opening" or the "Exordium". It is also known as the Umm Al-Kitab.

Reciting this magnificent surah in all of our daily prayers is an obligation.

Narrated 'Ubada bin As-Samit: Allah's Apostle said, "Whoever does not recite Al-Fatiha in his prayer, his prayer is invalid." (Book 12, Hadith 723, Sahih Bukhari).

In practice, this means that Muslims who religiously perform their daily prayers will recite Surah Al-Fatiha at least 17 times a day!

Another very interesting hadith relating to this Surah:

Abu Hurairah had heard the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) declare that Allah the Exalted had said: I have divided the prayer into two halves between Me and My servant, and My servant will receive what he asks.
When the servant says: Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the universe, Allah the Most High says: My servant has praised Me.
And when he (the servant) says: The Most Compassionate, the Merciful, Allah the Most High says: My servant has lauded Me.
And when he (the servant) says: Master of the Day of judgment, He remarks: My servant has glorified Me. and sometimes He would say: My servant entrusted (his affairs) to Me.
And when he (the worshipper) says: Thee do we worship and of Thee do we ask help, He (Allah) says: This is between Me and My servant, and My servant will receive what he asks for.
Then, when he (the worshipper) says: Guide us to the straight path, the path of those to whom Thou hast been Gracious not of those who have incurred Thy displeasure, nor of those who have gone astray, He (Allah) says: This is for My servant, and My servant will receive what he asks for." (Book 4, Hadith 775, Sahih Muslim).

Inilah masanya untuk anda raih peluang ini menghadirkan diri bagi sesi perkhemahan yang akan berjalan sepanjang 7 hari 6 malam di Masjid Petempatan Melayu Sembawang. Perkhemahan ini dibuka untuk remaja berusia 12 - 21tahun.

Tujuan kami mengadakan Pesantren Kilat ini semata-mata untuk mencari keredhaan Allah dengan menyampaikan ajaran Islam (ilmu Fiqh, Tauhid & Tasawuf) secara menyeluruh kepada remaja Islam kita. PUASA ENAM MENDAPAT GANJARAN PUASA SEPANJANG TAHUN

Adalah menjadi lumrah bagi kebanyakan umat Islam untukmenggiatkan aktiviti ibadah pada sepanjang bulan Ramadan. Ini adalah kerana pada bulan yang penuh berkat ini Allah 'Azza wa Jalla membuka pintu langit dengan seluas-luasnya untuk menurunkan limpahan rahmat-Nya kepada sekalian hamba-hamba-Nya. Pada bulan yang mulia ini juga segala amalan-amalan berbentuk ketaatan kepada-Nya akan naik secara terus kepada-Nya.Sabda Rasulullah shallallahu 'alaihi wasallam:

Apabila masuk bulan Ramadan, maka pintu-pintu langit dibuka… Hadis riwayat Imam al-Bukhari di dalamShahihnya, no: 1899

Namun demikian apabila Syawal menjelma terdapat ramai umat Islam yang mula lalai serta alpa dalam mengerjakan ibadah. Syawal di lihat seperti bulan untuk berehat dari melakukan amal-amal soleh dan digantikan dengan pesta pembaziran, pergaulan bebas di antara lelaki dan wanita, memakai pakian yang tidak mengikut spesifikasi syari’at, temasya menonton rancangan televisyen yang berunsur hedonis dan lain-lain lagi. Ini tidak sepatutnya berlaku kerana pada bulan Ramadan umat Islam seolah-olah berada di dalam sebuah institusi latihan untuk membentuk insan yang bertaqwa dan setelah tamat latihan tersebut ia sepatutnya dapat membantu seseorang untuk mengekalkan ketaqwaan tersebut pada baki sebelas bulan lagi.

Justeru itu seluruh umat Islam sewajarnya mengekalkan peningkatan dalam tahap mengerjakan amal ibadah pada bulan Syawal dan bulan-bulan yang lain. Di antara bukti bahawa Ramadan telah berjaya membentuk keperibadian yang tinggi terhadap seseorang dalam menjadi insan yang bertaqwa adalah dengan mengerjakan puasa sunat Syawal atau lebih dikenali dengan puasa enam bagi masyarakat kita. Dalil disyari’atkan ibadah puasa sunat Syawal adalah sabda Rasulullah shallallahu 'alaihi wasallam:

Barangsiapa yang berpuasa pada bulan Ramadan laludiiringinya dengan puasa enam hari di bulan Syawal,maka seolah-olah dia telah berpuasa sepanjang masa. -Hadis riwayat Imam Muslim di dalam Shahihnya, no: 1164

Menerusi hadis di atas dapat kita fahami bahawakeutamaan puasa sunat pada bulan Syawal adalahseolah-olah dia berpuasa sepanjang tahun. Menurut Syaikh ‘Abdullah al-Bassam:

Barangsiapa berpuasa enam hari pada bulan Syawalsetelah Ramadan maka seakan-akan dia berpuasa fardusetahun. Ini adalah kerana satu kebaikan di balas dengan sepuluh kali ganda sepertinya. Puasa pada bulan Ramadan dibalas dengan ganjaran bersamaan sepuluh bulan (iaitu bersamaan dengan 300 hari), puasa enam hari (pada bulan Syawal) pula mendapat ganjaran sebanyak dua bulan (iaitu bersamaan dengan 60 hari),yang demikian itu menjadi sunah yang sempurna, maka tercapailah pahala beribadah setahun tanpa kesulitan sebagai kurnia daripada Allah dan nikmat ke atas hamba-Nya. – Taudhih al-Ahkam min Bulughul Maraam,jilid 3, ms. 576, Pustaka Azzam.

Cara yang paling utama untuk melaksanakannya adalah memulakan berpuasa sesudah Hari Raya Aidilfitri secara langsung (iaitu pada tarikh 2 Syawal), berturut-turut sebagaimana yang ditetapkan oleh para ulamak. Ini juga merupakan pendapat Imam Abu Hanifah dan Imam al-Syafi’i. Namun begitu seseorang juga bebas memilih mana-mana hari sepanjang bulan Syawal sama ada di awal, pertengahan mahupun akhirnya bahkan dia juga boleh mengerjakan secara berturut-turut mahupun berpisah-pisah.

Amalan sesetengah pihak yang melakukan puasa qadha dan sunat Syawal secara serentak mengikut formula dua dalam satu merupakan perbuatan bidaah yang tidak ada dalilnya dari mana-mana hadis Nabi shallallahu 'alaihi wasallam yang sabit. Apa yang lebih utama adalah menyempurnakan puasa bulan Ramadan terlebih dahulu yakni dengan menggantikan puasa-puasa yang tertinggal kemudian baru dikerjakan puasa sunat Syawal. Ini lebih bertepatan dengan maksud hadis di atas untuk mendapat keutamaanya iaitu seolah-olah berpuasa sepanjang tahun. Oleh itu janganlah ketinggalan dari menunaikan puasa sunat enam hari di bulan Syawal ini.

Alunan Alam's been a great success. The event organised by both MHDS Y0uth and Nur Ikhwan went smoothly and well-coordinated according to plan. Alhamdulillah.

And also, I would like to take this opportunity to thank eveyone of you that made this possible. Be it the participants, comm members, sponsors and also invited guests. You all made this a fun, yet fulfilling event. Syukran jazeelan.

What's special about Alunan Alam?

It was held at Pasir Ris Beach so as to preserve and appreciate nature environment. It was packed with ice-breaking games, team-building games, beach-cleaning activity, terawih prayers, muhasabah session and a short tazkirah session. It falls on the last 10 nights of Ramadhan. And it's strongly believed that the Night of qadr falls in the last ten nights of the month of Ramadhan.

Narrated 'Aisha: Allah's Apostle used to practice Itikaf in the last ten nights of Ramadan and used to say, "Look for the Night of qadr in the last ten nights of the month of Ramadan ," (Book #32, Hadith #237)

I sincerely hope Alunan Alam benefited those who attended it. Spiritually, physically, mentally & psychological. InsyaAllah.

Nisfu Syaaban (Nisf bermaksud separuh) adalah peristiwa hari ke-15 dalam bulan Syaaban tahun Hijrah. Umat Islam mempercayai yang pada malam Nisfu Syaaban, amalan akan dibawa naik oleh malaikat untuk ditukar dengan lembaran amalan yang baru setelah setahun berlalu.

Salam all. Just want to share some information about the night of Nisfu Syaaban which is happening tonight.

The significance of Nisfu Syaaban

'Nisfu' is an Arabic word which when translated means 'middle'.

As religious customs dictate, a recital of surah yaasin was held after the Maghrib prayer, led by the Imam.The surah yaasin was read three times simultaneously, which included its different reasons and asked for different benefits. This was then followed with a 'doa nisfu sya'aban'.The first reading of the surah yaasin was conducted to ask for longevity to enable the faithful to further commit or 'beribadat' to Allah the Al-Mighty. Second was to ask for good fortune or 'rezeki halal' and the last was to strengthen one's faith towards Allah and to hope that one would pass away by staying true to the faith.The surah yaasin was recited after the Maghrib prayers as the Hijrah date will changed at the time that the Maghrib prayer is called.

One of the benefits of performing the 'puasa sunat' during this month was as an exercise and to prepare for fasting before performing it for the whole month of Ramadhan, which follows after Sya'aban. During Ramadhan, it is an obligation for all Muslims to fast and stated as one of the five pillars of Islam.However, it should be noted that, Allah would always open one's heart to 'taubat' (be penitent) for everyone at anytime, and not during the 'Nisfu Sya'aban'.

A hadith said that the advantage of the month of Rejab is the same as the benefits of the Holy Quran compared to other 'qalam', the month of Sya'aban as the same as the entire 'Anbia', and the month of Ramadhan as the same as Allah over all the creatures.One of the benefits of Sya'aban is that those who fast on any day, Allah will forbid him from hellfire and they will be companions to Prophet Yusof in heaven.Another hadith, as narrated by Ibnu Habban in his authentic book, from Muaz bin Jabal ra, said that Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) spoke that "Allah will see his followers on the night of Nisfu Sya'aban and Allah will give rewards or pahala to all of the followers, except those who commit syirik (witchcraft) and adultery".As narrated by Abdullah bin Amru bin al-As, which means "Allah looks at his creatures on the night of Nisfu Sya'aban, and will grant forgiveness, except for two groups, that are those who commit suicide and those who spread fitnah".

Dari Abu Hurairah RA, bahwa sesungguhnya Rasulullah SAW, telah bersabda : "Bila seorang hamba telah meninggal, segala amalnya terputus, kecuali tiga hal : amal jariyah , ilmu yang bermanfaat atau anak shalih yang mendo'ak ann ya " (HR. Bukhari, dalam Adabul Mufrad).

Berikut contoh konkrit, sadaqah (amal) jariah, yang pahalanya terus mengalir
walaupun si pemberi sadaqah telah wafat :

SADAQAH JARIAH - KEBAIKAN YANG TAK BERAKHIR
AL SADAQAT AL JARIYAH - THE ACTIONS WHICH OUTLIVES YOU !

1.. Berikan Al-Quran pada seseorang , setiap saat Al-Quran tersebut dibaca, anda mendapatkan kebaikan.
Give Quran to someone and each time they read from it, you will gain asanaat.

2.. Ajarkan seseorang sebuah do'a . Pada setiap bacaan do'a itu,anda mendapatkan kebaikan.
Teach someone to recite a dua. With each recitation, you will gain hasanaat.

3.. Sumbangkan kerusi roda ke Hospital dan setiap orang sakit menggunak ann ya, anda mendapatkan kebaikan.
Donate a wheel chair to a hospital and each time a sick person uses it, you will gain hasanaat.

4.. Tanam sebuah pohon . Setiap seseorang atau h aiwan berlindung dibawahnya atau makan buahnya, anda dapat kebaikan.
Plant a tree. Each time any person or an animal sits under its shade or eats from the tree, you will gain hasanaat.

5.. Tempatkan pendingin air di tempat awam .
Place a water cooler in a public place.

6.. Edarkan bacaan yang membangun dengan seseorang.
Share constructive reading material with someone.

7.. Libatkan diri dalam pembangunan masjid .
Participate in the building of a mosque.

8.. Edarkan CD Quran atau Do'a .
Share a dua or Quran CD.

9.. Bantulah pendidikan seorang anak .
Help in educating a child.

10.. Edarkan pengetahuan ini dengan orang lain . Jika seseorang menjalankan salah satu dari hal diatas, Anda dapat kebaikan sampai hari Qiamat.
Share this with someone. If one person applies any of the above you will receive your hasanaat until the Day of Judgment.

Amacam? Dah cukup rehat? Balas dendam eh? Hehe

Anyway, first and foremost, on behalf of Mus and Liyana, I would like to thank Allah and all of you who attended for making the short camp a success! Without your presence, there wouldn't have been a camp at all, much less a successful one...

To those who couldn't make it for the camp, I'm sure it's because you had something else and insyaAllah there's a hikmah behind it. InsyaAllah there'll be other NI mukhayyam in future.

Anyway, to those who went for the mukhayyam to menghayati and for those who couldn't attend to know, here's the Pledge of a Muslim Youth we recited towards the end. Hope you can read and internalize it and hold your words to it...

Have you ever had the experience of being in an Amazing Race around KL? or experience abseiling, flying fox & jungletrekking subsequently? Or have u ever thougt how KL youths live their everyday lives?

Well, if you are a youth aged 15 - 25 years old, here's your CHANCE to experience it!

Arrijal Al-Istiqamah, will be organising X-Cube 2009, an overseas trip to Malaysia from 5th June 2009 to 8th June 2009. The main highlight of this trip would be KL Pursuit(Amazing Race) in Kuala Lumpur and outdoor adventure at Rebutia ! You will also be given a chance to engage with the students of Universiti Islam Antarabangsa (UIA) and other Youth Wings in KL.

The total cost per person would only be $150 (inclusive of transport, food and lodging). However, should we be able to fund-raise, the price per person would be lowered down as low as $40 per person !

The Last Sermon of Prophet Muhammad

O People, lend me an attentive ear, for I know not whether after this year, I shall ever be amongst you again. Therefore listen to what I am saying to you very carefully and take these words to those who could not be present here today.

O People, just as you regard this month, this day, this city as Sacred, so regard the life and property of every Muslim as a sacred trust. Return the goods entrusted to you to their rightful owners. Hurt no one so that no one may hurt you. Remember that you will indeed meet your Lord, and that He will indeed reckon your deeds. God has forbidden you to take usury (interest), therefore all interest obligation shall henceforth be waived. Your capital, however, is yours to keep. You will neither inflict nor suffer any inequity. God has judged that there shall be no interest and that all the interest due to Abbas ibn 'Abd'al Muttalib shall henceforth be waived...

Beware of Satan, for the safety of your religion. He has lost all hope that he will ever be able to lead you astray in big things, so beware of following him in small things.

O People, it is true that you have certain rights with regard to your women, but they also have rights over you. Remember that you have taken them as your wives only under God's trust and with His permission. If they abide by your right then to them belongs the right to be fed and clothed in kindness. Do treat your women well and be kind to them for they are your partners and committed helpers. And it is your right that they do not make friends with any one of whom you do not approve, as well as never to be unchaste.

O People, listen to me in earnest, worship God, say your five daily prayers (Salah), fast during the month of Ramadan, and give your wealth in Zakat. Perform Hajj if you can afford to.

All mankind is from Adam and Eve, an Arab has no superiority over a non-Arab nor a non-Arab has any superiority over an Arab; also a white has no superiority over black nor a black has any superiority over white except by piety and good action. Learn that every Muslim is a brother to every Muslim and that the Muslims constitute one brotherhood. Nothing shall be legitimate to a Muslim which belongs to a fellow Muslim unless it was given freely and willingly. Do not, therefore, do injustice to yourselves.

Remember, one day you will appear before God and answer your deeds. So beware, do not stray from the path of righteousness after I am gone.

O People, no prophet or apostle will come after me and no new faith will be born. Reason well, therefore, O People, and understand words which I convey to you. I leave behind me two things, the Quran and my example, the Sunnah and if you follow these you will never go astray.

All those who listen to me shall pass on my words to others and those to others again; and may the last ones understand my words better than those who listen to me directly. Be my witness, O God, that I have conveyed your message to your people".
